What is Ectopic Pregnancy & What Are the Signs?

What is an Ectopic Pregnancy?

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in the fallopian tube. It is a serious medical emergency that cannot result in a viable birth.

  • Fallopian tube: most common (97% cases)
  • Other sites: ovary, cervix, abdomen, or C-section scar

What Are the Signs?

  • One-sided lower abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Shoulder pain or dizziness
  • Sudden severe pain (sign of rupture, medical emergency)
Important

Seek immediate medical help if you suspect ectopic pregnancy. Do not self-medicate.

"Early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy can save lives and protect future fertility."
